On March 5th, 12 athletes from Hi-Performance TKD and 2 from Labrador City TKD competed at the Maritime Taekwondo Union Provincials in Bedford Nova Scotia. In total, the NL contingent won 9 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze. It was a fantastic result and highlighted the incredible potential that we have within the NLATU.
Master Hosel commented that “our colour belts are as good, if not better than our counterparts in the Atlantic region. We have a baseline of incredible talent that, with experience, will do incredibly well.”
“There is however, a pretty significant gap when it comes to competitive black belt divisions. Some of our opponents placed at national and international competitions and that experience shows. They have adapted their tactics and strategy to manipulate the electronic body pad system which put NL athletes at a disadvantage. This was our first tournament using PSS and it had an impact on the result. “
The Tournament hosts, Mansfield’s Taekwondo, recognized the efforts of the NL athletes and presented them with the “Team that traveled the Farthest” trophy. It was a nice touch.
Congratulations to all our athletes and coaches who represented their clubs and province we are very proud of you!
A special thanks to the parents who endured the trip, snow storm and a long day!
